My Top 5 Bodysuit Trend List and How to Style Them to Perfection

Lately, I’ve been really loving the bodysuit trend, which has inspired me to create a post showcasing the hottest trends and an overview of what I’m seeing most.  When choosing a bottom, I most prefer a high waisted (to hit horizontally at the center of the waist) short, skirt, legging, pant, or pair of jeans; however if you look at the model in the collage, the belt hits between the waist and the hips which can work just as well.

My Top 5 Bodysuit Trend List:

*  Bold Spring Florals:  I love bold floral prints and I’m definitely seeing them everywhere this season from dresses to tops and now bodysuits.  With any floral print, it’s best to pair with a solid on the bottom.  If you’re going to choose another print, make sure the scales of the print are contrasting (one with a small scale paired with a large scale).  You just have to be very careful in your selection when mixing various prints or otherwise it can be style overkill.

*  Dainty Lace:  I think with lace, you can safely style it with black or even try adding a solid pop of color when choosing a bottom for a bold contrast.

*  Blush and Nude Shades:  I find blush and nude tones to be the easiest to style.  You can wear any bottoms that are black or even denim could work to give it a nice mix of femininity and casual edginess.

*  Contrasting Two-Tones:  Any bodysuit with a color contrast (such as black and white) is always a great choice and will leave you with the most styling options.  I believe that a bottom with a solid or a print can easily work.  Also, don’t forget about texture of fabric as a styling element to bring into the mix.   It will definitely add extra visual interest pairing a bottom with a unique texture such as lace, wool, velvet, etc.

*  Cut-Outs:  This is by far my favorite trend!  It’s not only eye-catching, it makes a strong fashion statement and just looks really chic!    More specifically, I am featuring Michael Kors cutout cashmere-blend bodysuit within my style collage.  I realize this may not be the most practical look but it’s definitely daring!  Which typically means I would have no problem wearing it and in this situation, I’m all for it!  ;)

[Style Vault] – Sheer Black Bodysuit

Bebe black sheer bodysuit

I bought this bodysuit about a month ago from Bebe.  It’s hard to really appreciate this through the photos, but this is a sheer black bodysuit with intricate swirl designs throughout the front.  This is such a beautiful piece and for me, something classic that won’t go out of style anytime soon.

If you really look up close, you can see the intricate design and styling details of this Bebe black sheer bodysuit.

PS- I plan on writing an upcoming post regarding ways of styling a bodysuit (stay tuned)!

Meli’s Fall Fashion 2011 Wish List And My Top 10 Trends That I Will Be Wearing This Season

So it officially feels like fall in New Jersey and I’m excited to share what I’ll be wearing this season, along with what I’m totally lusting for right now!  Fall is my favorite season, not just for the weather but for the FASHION of course! ;)

* First, I’d like to start with my fashion wish list (as depicted in the collage I created above):

–  Tassle metallic wedges (OMG these Jeffrey Campbells I found through Polyvore are TO DIE FOR, I’m so obsessed with the tassles and mettalic finish and the height of these bad boys…WOW, THESE ARE TOO BEYOND AMAZING FOR WORDS!  I may have to splurge on these, like for real)

–  Red skinny jeans (I love the idea of these, they are sharp and striking)

–  High waist pants (I’m on a total high waist kick, I only own high waisted shorts and skirts…could go for some high waisted pants)

–  Accessories with tassles, animal print, and red (I love all those design elements)

 *  Also still looking for a fur (real) bag!  Ideally a white rabbit fur one :)
*  I could also use a cropped leather motorcycle jacket for my edgy side
*  Thin belts…I own a lot of thicker ones and could use a really chic thin one to cinch a look or two!

Moving onto the trends I’m totally wearing this season (along with some throw-backs from last season)…

–  Bodysuits (I currently own a white one and my new J Crew black/white stripped off shoulder)

–  Stirrups (I don’t see myself giving up my stirrups, these may not be a common trend, so I will just classify it as a “Meli trend” that is NOT going anywhere anytime soon!  I like to be a trendsetter like that!)

–  Black leggings (I still live in black leggings and have different variations with zippers on the bottom sides along with a riding style look)

–  Skinny jeans (Although all kinds of shapes are coming back in style, I am still 100% loyal to my skinny jeans and NOT ready to retire them or convert to any other pant style just yet)

–  Jeggings (I love the comfort and smooth fit of a nice pair of jeggings…I have two pairs: a dark denim and acid wash)

–  Black arm warmers (Don’t see this trend too frequently, but they are hot and visually really cool looking while also being very warm of course.  This is another “Meli trend”)

–   Metallics (I typically favor gold but like metallics in all varieties)

–  Red (Red is bigger and bolder than ever this season, just as much as when I first wrote about this trend…I’m still wearing red with full confidence!)

–  Animal print (I especially love it with shoes and accessories, but totally open to it within clothing in moderation)

–  Lace (I favor black lace but love white lace as well.  Actually, I pretty much like any lace although I can be semi-picky with the actual lace print itself.  Regardless, lace is always a feminine and pretty choice)

Speaking of black lace, I just converted my summer everyday bag to my Guess swan doctor satchel that I purchased a year ago. This is going to be my everyday fall bag. I surprisingly didn't use it all that often last season and look forward to using this daily!
