Why I Read Glamour Magazine…

So today I got the October issue of Glamour (I LOVE how it’s only September 8th and I already got it in the mail) and actually got a chance to read the entire magazine today! Okay, I shouldn’t say entire because now that I subscribe to 10+ magazines, I don’t have the time to really read an entire magazine anymore. I mainly like to look at the pretty pictures! =) Don’t we all though?
I actually would never even subscribe to Glamour by choice (the reason why I have the subscription if you really wanna know is…I used to subscribe to Domino which was a style and interior design type of magazine and they unfortunately had to stop making it and to compensate, they changed my subscription to Glamour). As for why I am not the biggest fan of the magazine, I feel a lot of the material is recycled and it’s not a TRUE fashion or beauty magazine. Like the fashion and beauty stuff is very commercial…it’s for your basic American girl…not to say I’m not that but it just doesn’t cut it for a fashion obsessed, beauty extraordinaire like myself!
Another reason why I never thought it was so great was because it would focus a lot on men and honestly, I don’t like reading a chick magazine and reading tacky articles about how to get a guy and all that stupid nonsense. Classic example, on the cover of the October issue, the first headline you read is, “12 SECRET SIGNS HE’S INTO YOU, +73 More Must-Read Man-Facts.” Wow, no wonder why chicks are seen as desperate, needy, and pathetic. Which is unfair because there are independent women that exist out there!
But I have to say I actually do enjoy the magazine and find myself wanting to read every little thing! It’s supposedly the #1 women’s magazine. It’s eclectic which is why it’s so appealing. It talks about everything a modern chick wants the scoop on…fitness, fashion, make-up, hair, shopping, celebrities…and most importantly, beefy hunks and HOW TO GET THEM (haha sorry I had to drop a little sarcasm there).
Something interesting I’d like to share that I had learned from the October issue is that a handful of designers had created a design for a tote bag with 100% of the proceeds going to Dress for Success. This is a charity for women to help them start-up their careers. These tote bags can be purchased either at Bloomingdale’s NYC or on the Bloomingdale’s website for $35 a piece.

My favorite design is by Jason Wu. It’s very clean, modern, and simple. I feel its simplicity is what makes it a truly classic and functional piece. And sometimes, that’s what you need, just like how every woman needs that little black dress…(don’t deny it…I know it’s sitting in your closet and if it’s not, I need to take you shopping)!
